Principal’s Message
Welcome to Highlands School, and our web site. Highlands School has a tradition of great students, a great staff, and we are looking forward to a great year in 2011– 2012. Our 200 students in grades seven, eight and nine look forward to taking part in a school that matches our new tag line – Learning with Respect, Responsibility, Pride.
Each year, our achievements are improved over the previous year, whether looking at students achieving their Grade Level of Achievement (GLA), or writing the grade nine Provincial Achievement Tests (PAT) or taking part in the Highest Level of Achievement Tests (HLAT) in Writing and Reading. Our teachers take great pride in working with all students – those who excel in academics, and those who find difficulty in one or more areas. We accommodate a wide variety of learners from a number of different backgrounds, but at the core of our learning is LEARNING.
Highlands also has a long tradition of meeting students’ other needs, and to that end we have a number of partner agencies who provide support, including Métis Child and Family Services, Aboriginal Youth and Family Well-Being and Education Society, and the Wellness, Resiliency and Partnership (WRaP) project with Edmonton Regional Educational Consulting Services.
We also provide access to a variety of extra-curricular opportunities for students like intramurals and clubs at noon and after school, and a number of always competitive interschool athletic teams – soccer, volleyball, cheer team, badminton, basketball, wrestling, rugby, cross country running, and track and field.
If you are interested in more information, or a tour, please contact us at the school.
Sincerely,
Ken LeLacheur
